Peanut Butter Mix: (popular with birds yr round) Mix 1/2 c. cup peanut butter (creamy or chunky) with 2 1/2 c. cornmeal or uncooked oatmeal until well blended. Add about 1/4 c. chopped up leftover meat (in winter), dried fruit or nuts. This recipe is best if spread into the holes of a log feeder or a large pinecone and hung from a branch. *It is best to mix PB with another food to break up the sticky texture like cornmeal or uncooked oatmeal - birds can choke on just PB. *In cold weather birds need the extra fat & protein that the PB provides. *In summer, there is more natural food available but can utilize the PB during the cycle of breeding and feeding of young. *Dont waste your time offering PB in really hot weather - prone to melting.
